At Runway Pup Publishing, stories begin with a wagging tail and a spark of imagination. Founded by a mother-and-daughter duo, we believe in creating books that celebrate creativity, kindness, and the magic of being yourself.

Inspired by our real-life Papillon pup, Anakin "Pickles", we dreamed up a world where fashion and friendship come together on every page. Penelope brings the playful spark, always full of ideas, sketches, and questions while her mom helps shape those dreams into stories and illustrations for families everywhere to enjoy.

Together, we hope our books encourage children to embrace their individuality, chase big dreams, and remember Pickles’ favorite motto: “Fashion is for every paw!”

Our Story

The Story Behind Pickles

Pickles wasn’t just dreamed up one day, he was stitched together from threads of fashion, family, and imagination.

As a mom working in the fashion industry, I’ve always been surrounded by sketches, fabrics, and the excitement of turning ideas into something real. When our Papillon pup, Anakin (nicknamed “Pickles”), joined the family, his playful personality and signature pink bow quickly turned him into our own little runway star.

At the same time, I was learning how technology was reshaping design and creativity. Watching Penelope doodle and dream beside me, I realized that stories could be like fashion, they start as a sketch, then grow into something colorful, full of life, and meant to be shared.

That’s how Pickles the Papillon was born: a character who blends the magic of style with the heart of storytelling, teaching kids that creativity has no limits. From the dog park runway to couture camp adventures, every tale is inspired by a love of fashion, the joy of family, and one very special pup.

Author & Founder of Runway Pup Publishing

Dawn Chesko is the co-creator of the Pickles the Papillon series and the founder of Runway Pup Publishing. With a background in fashion and technology, she combines creativity and storytelling to bring whimsical, couture-inspired adventures to life. She loves blending imagination with heartwarming lessons that inspire children to dream big and embrace who they are.

When she’s not writing or working on new ideas, she enjoys time with her family, walks with Pickles, and cheering on Penelope’s boundless creativity.

Penelope is the youngest (and most imaginative!) co-creator of the Pickles the Papillon books. Her ideas, sketches, and playful storytelling help shape every adventure Pickles takes, reminding readers that kids can dream just as big as grown-ups.

Penelope loves dogs, drawing, and coming up with new fashion-forward designs for Pickles and her friends. She hopes readers everywhere will remember that every pup and every person has a style all their own.

Anakin "Pickles"

Anakin, better known as Pickles, is the real-life inspiration behind the Pickles the Papillon series. With his fluffy ears, playful spirit, and signature pink bow, Pickles brings joy wherever he goes.

When he’s not busy being a muse for new stories, Pickles enjoys chasing butterflies, snuggling with his family, and striking a pose worthy of any runway. His big personality and even bigger heart remind us every day why fashion (and life!) is truly “for every paw.”
